Where will Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology lead you?
Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology will lead students to a variety of job and/or apprenticeship opportunities in the automotive industry. Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology is delivered via a VETiS profile program through South Regional TAFE, as a two-year program.
Common work tasks
- Diagnose, overhaul, repair, tune, maintain and test diesel, petrol and gas-powered vehicles
- Detect mechanical and electrical faults by using instruments that check charging and starting circuitry, batteries, ignition and ignition timing, fuel injection systems and speed control, cylinder compression, engine condition, braking efficiency, and wheel balance and alignment
- Repair and maintain the hydraulic components of diesel, petrol and gas engines that are used to power attachments such as hoists, booms, scrapers, buckets and augers
- Use oxy, ARC, TIG and MIG welding, hand-fitting or machining processes to replace or repair faulty parts

How to be Competitive for the Application and Interview Process in Year 10
- Do Mechanical Workshop in Year 9 Semester 1 & 2 and Year 10 Semester 1, as this covers the automotive theory and welding skills undertaken in Year 11 and some of Year 12 Automotive Course.
- Ensure you do Work Experience in an Esperance automotive business, get positive feedback and ask if they would consider you for Workplace Learning if you get into the Automotive Course.
- Have excellent attendance in Year 10.
- Pass English and Maths in Year 10.
- Demonstrate that you are ‘work ready’ through a part time job.
