The $4.7 million Trades Training Centre at Esperance SHS was opened in 2011. Year 11 and 12 students enrolled in Esperance SHS’s Automotive, Metals & Engineering and Building & Construction VET programs use the facility for their schooling and their certificate training. Students in these programs complete a Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology, a Certificate II in Construction or a Certificate II in Engineering. Students complete one day per week of Certificate training, one day per week at Workplace Learning with a local business and three days per week at school.
The Centre includes:
- a fully equipped automotive workshop that has state-of-the art equipment including a laser wheel aligner, scan tool and two hoists to facilitate the delivery of up to Certificate III in Automotive trades.
- A fully equipped construction and wet trades workshop that includes industry standard timber machining equipment as well as concreting equipment and two enclosed tool trailers set up for on-site work.
- Design space that features computers
These VET programs have limited places and are very popular. Students should be doing everything they can in lower school to demonstrate their suitability to be selected for one of these programs.
Application packages are available from the VET page under the Curriculum menu in term 3.
