The Premiers Anzac Tour Competition.
This competition is run every year. Students from years 7-11 from both state and private schools in West Australia may enter. This is an essay based competition and is in the context of the ANZAC spirit and traditions and/or Western Australian involvement in various conflicts, (usually one of the two World Wars)
Winners of this competition, (ten students state-wide), win a place on an organised excursion of ten or so days to a foreign location that features strongly in Australian military history. The trip is largely an educational, history study and cultural tour experience. Some destinations in the past have been; Gallipoli, The Western Front, Greece/Crete, Malaysia/Borneo. This competition is fully sponsored by the State Government through the Department of Education.
ESHS usually enters several students in this competition each year. We have a strong history with The Premiers ANZAC Tour Competition in that several students from this school have won places on the trip in the past. Some past winners/entrants from ESHS have been Krista Moir, Elliot Smith, Elisha Clifton, Courtney Spencer and Hannah Casteldine.
Entrants in the competition write and enter an essay addressing a topic to do with Australian military history/the ANZAC legend or possibly Western Australia and its experiences and or impacts of war.
The top twenty entrants in the state progress to the finals stage where those students are interviewed by the judging panel and are required to present a brief oral presentation matching their essay. From here the final ten winners are chosen.
